〓 ２．リンクインシステムセミナーを開催しました(その２) 〓
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
先週の１５日(月)と１９日(金)におきまして、弊社開発の新英語教育システム「リンク
インシステム」の体験セミナーを開催いたしました。ご多忙な時期にも関わらず、学校関
係者様並びに教育業界の方がご参加いただけましたこと、厚く御礼申し上げます。
弊社開発の新英語教育システムの「リンクインシステム」は、従来バラバラに行われて
いた日本人英語教師の英語授業と外国人英語教師の英語授業を「効果的・最大限に」組み
合わせることで、従来の学校の枠組みを阻害することなく、日本の英語授業に欠落しがち
な４技能(読む・聞く・話す・書く)を統合させた理想の英語授業を実現させるシステムで
す。先週に引き続き、寄せられた参加者様からの声をご紹介いたします。

「今回のセミナーに出席してみて、システムが理解できました。また授業の小気味いいテン
ポの速さにクラスの生徒全員がついていけていることも関心しました。驚きは、中学１年生
なのに、ネイティブ講師による全編英語の授業でもキチンと対応し、全員参加型授業が効果
的に成立していることでした。いずれ彼らが中学３年になる頃は、かなりの英語力に到達し
ていることに疑いを感じません。ちなみに私の勤務する学校では、中学３年の特進クラスで

入されていることに納得できました。残念ながら、私の学校では、従来からの日本人の英語

とですが、このテストでネイティブ講師が生徒の理解度を常に把握していることは、有意義
だと思います。リンクインシステムのテキストは、この学校さんが採用する教科書(New Crown)
に合わせて作成されいるので、このようなアクティブな授業に合っていると思います。そも
そもNew Crown自体 が、ネイティブ英語講師が使うことを想定していませんからね。私の学
校がこのシステムを導入するかどうかはまだ分かりませんが、今回の授業参観を通して色々
と参考になりました。」

〓 ３．日本の中の不思議な英語表現(その４) 〓
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
私たち日本人が外国に訪れてみると、街の中で不思議で不適切な日本語に出会うことがあ
りませんか？同じように、ここ日本でも外国人が不思議で不適切な英語表現を見ることもあ
るでしょう。そんな事例をここでご紹介いたします。今回は、あるスイーツ屋さんの紙袋に
記された英語の広告文です。直訳すると、我々日本人なら、何とか何を言わんとしているか
把握できますが、外国人にとっては失笑を誘う内容になっております。

of this shop. Our mission is to make our customer happy with our food and say
“What a so tasty!!”Our pursuing tastiness will never stop. We intend to offer

そこで、添削案ですが下記の通り試案してみました。(赤字部分)

なるべくオリジナルの文意に沿って訂正してみましたが、感嘆文での基礎的知識が欠落して
いたのが致命的でしたし、冒頭の“This”が何を指しているのかが、不明確でしたので、今
回はほとんどが訂正対象になっております。ところでこの英語の広告が、誰に向けてのメッ
セージなのか分かりませんが、もしも外国人向けではなく、日本人だけを対象に発信された
単なるイメージ的広告あったならば、安っぽいいい加減なイメージに惑わされることなく、
我々も失笑する事で、こんないい加減な広告を出すお店の本質を見極めるべきかもしれません。

A day in the life of being me
at about 9 years old.
A
day in the life of being me when I was about 9 years old, let me see, where do
I start
with
this one, I suppose getting up in the morning would be a good place to start
because I
actually
enjoyed getting up early and still do. You might be thinking to yourself
what
does
he mean by he enjoyed getting up, which kid really enjoys getting up, don’t most kids
wish they could stay in bed in a morning, particularly when
it is a school morning and
there
is snow on the ground or it is throwing it down with rain. The whole
process of being
woken
up by the morning waking itself up and the sounds I can still clearly remember
listening
to as my father started his working day, these sounds still have great
significance
for
me. I now have the same situation in my family, my son and daughter are
almost
always
up with me in a morning, I make breakfast for them sometimes, I even make their
lunch
boxes up for them as well. My kids always see me off to work with a hug
and a kiss
and
as I am going out of the door they will say something like “See you daddy, do your
best” and they will keep shouting
it. To which I reply “I will and always do”. “Do your
best
as well”, to
which they shout again at the top of their voices “I will daddy” which
resonates
all the way through the house and beyond – It is like my kids are not just
sending
me off to work, but all the other daddies in the neighbourhood.
Here I go with
digressing
again, I think I have a habit of doing this a bit too much, anyway back to the
story .. ………
Getting
up early in the morning was one thing that I was very good at doing when I was
a
kid, still am, partly because I don’t like to stay in bed any longer than is necessary
because
I feel I am missing out on something, and also I am one of those people that
needs
to be doing something active and creative almost all the time. Staying in
bed is a
pastime
that is enjoyed by many people for many reasons, but for me it just means I am
being
lazy. I have tried doing it, like I have tried getting by on just 3/4
hours sleep per
night,
but it makes me under perform, “If you do everything in
moderation you will not go
far
wrong” this is
something that still echoes in my mind because my father used regularly
say
it. He used to really bash my ear with it particularly as I got older and
started to
discover
the distractions that all kids discover, the ones that can interrupt your
schooling
and
affect other aspects of your life if you are not careful – I was not very careful,
unfortunately.
Everybody is different and we are all free to make our own choices, and
that
is a great thing, but staying in bed all day, and at the weekend like some of
my Japanese
English students used to tell me they
would do always surprised me. It made me angry in a
way
because here are kids that are fit and healthy full of vitality and vigor and
there are
those
that would love to get up and walk around, but cannot because they are confined
to
their
beds because of sickness and or disability. I used to explain this in
such a way to my
students,
but I do not think they paid much attention because when I asked a question
like
“How did you spend last weekend?” they would still say “I stayed in bed all day”.
The most significant early morning sound
that I can remember was my father opening
the
front door of the house and walking to the garage door. It is a bit
difficult to describe
the
sound of the garage door opening, but it had a start, a middle and an end, my
father
would
bring out his keys, open the garage door and then push the door forward to open
it.
It was the type of door that had two balancing weights on either side of the
door that
were
connected to two steel wires that were then connected to a third steel wire
that ran
through
the main centre frame of the door, so when the door was pushed only very
slightly
the
weights would do their job and help to pull the door down and it would then
open. I
would
always wake up at the point when my father pushed the key in the door to open
it
and
the three different sounds the door would make as it opened and closed would
confirm
that
I would not be closing my eyes and going back to sleep. The opening of
the door and
the
weights dropping would create a metal wire running on a steel pulley sound
which is
generally
quite dull and sort of springy in a way, the sound the door made when it
reached
its
stopping point would be a sort of bottoming out clanging sound with a vibrating
echo
effect
attached. My father would then get into his car and fire it up, reverse
it out of the
garage,
keep his car engine running and then close the garage door. When the door
was
closed
it would repeat the all the sounds again and when it closed completely the
sound
would
resonate and echo quite loudly. The balancing weights and pulley system
was very
sensitive,
and they were set in such a way that the door would close by itself after it
reached
a
certain point, so if you allowed it to close by itself it would close with a
loud crashing and
clattering
sound that really did make a noise. I do not know if my father allowed
the door
to
close by itself on purpose, but it always got me up out of bed at 6:40 every
morning and I
never
ever needed an alarm clock. My father would then get into his car and go
to the
newsagent’s shop which was just around
the corner from my house, he would buy a couple
of
newspapers and some cigarettes and then pop back home to give my mum her
newspaper,
pick up his lunchbox, give and receive his hugs and kisses from my mum and I,
say
his goodbyes to us and off he went. To be continued next

〓 ５．編集後記(メルマガ編集者らによる雑感コーナー) 〓

■９年前から文部科学省は中高一貫教育を推進しております。具体的には、平成１１年の
「生活空間倍増戦略プラン」、平成１３年の「２１世紀教育新生プラン」という政策におい
て、「中高一貫校を高等学校の通学範囲に少なくとも１校は整備する。」との整備目標が
示されています。同省は前記範囲を全国で５００と想定しておりますので、つまり、当面の
目標が５００校の私立・国公立中高一貫校設置との事ですので、昨年時点の３７０校から、
更に１３０校の増加をさせる責務を国は負っております。従来から、国公立一貫校の説明会
を開くと、満員御礼になるくらい国公立校の待望機運が高いことはご承知のとおりですが、
こうした従来からの傾向に加えて、今後は、昨年の政権交代による公立高校授業費無償化政
策が、国公立中高一貫校の人気にさらなる拍車をかけることが予想されます。最近の調査で
は、たとえ入学時点での保護者の学費負担が可能であっても、６年後の家計がどうなってい
るかが予測できないため、昨年と比べると、国公立一貫校への選好性傾向は高まっておりま
す。それを裏付けるかのように、最近の報道で、保護者勤務先の業績不振や働き盛りの４０
歳代でのリストラ・失業の件数が急増に伴い、子供が通う私立高校授業費の滞納の件数が増
えております。こうした国公立一貫校数への選好性や増加の機運が、今後の私立校にとって
の「脅威」となりうるかについては、意見の分かれるところですが、ひょっとしたらその答
えは、子供を持つ皆さんのご家庭の中にあるかもしれません。
